Introduction / Course Description:

The Fire Emergencies Course (previously referenced as the “Fire Safety Director” Course) is offered as a preparatory course for the Fire and Life Safety Director’s examination given by the Bureau of Fire Prevention of the NYC Fire Department. It consists of a 20-hour (total) two-week program. This course will cover local laws and their execution.

What are the qualifications of the Fire and Life Safety Director? (As per FDNY)

  1. Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age.  Applicants must present two pieces of satisfactory identification (i.e., driver’s license and passport picture ID).
  2. Applicants must have at least three (3) years’ of full-time work experience in one or more of the following fields (in any combination thereof), OR 18 months’ full-time work experience in one or more of the following fields (in any combination thereof) that includes at least six (6) months of continuous employment at one work location (FLSD Qualifications)
  3. Applicants must have a reasonable understanding of the English language and be able to answer satisfactorily such questions as may be asked on the examination.
  4. Applicants must satisfactorily complete (attend and pass) a training course for Fire and Life Safety Director given by a school or other organization accredited by the FDNY.
  5. Applicants must obtain a passing score of 70% on the Graduation Test given by the FDNY accredited school in order to apply for the Computer Based Test (CBT) / Written Exam.

 

FDNY / Third-Party Fees:

  • On the day of the exam at the FDNY, each applicant is required to pay a $25.00 fee to the New York City Fire Department.
