What do I receive once I have completed my online registration?
You will receive a confirmation letter via email. This letter will confirm the course name, course date and time as well as confirm payment. Please bring this letter the day of class.
Why do I need to give you my Social Security Number?
Your social security number is required for the computer bubble sheet that gets entered into the New York State portal once you complete the course. This gives you credit for taking the course and then it gets recorded under your Security Guard records with the Department of State (DOS). YOU MUST HAVE/KNOW your Social Security number on the day of the training.
Do I need a High School Diploma or GED to take the Security Guard Course?
No, the school does not require it.
What if someone else paid for my course and their name is on the receipt?
That is ok, this is a common occurrence. We will accept this payment receipt regardless of the name.
What is the dress code?
Croker Fire & Life Safety requires casual neat attire.
What if I am unable to make the class, I have registered for?
Please call the Croker Fire & Life Safety Institute office at 631-277-7602 and one of our team members will assist you in rescheduling another date.
What if I am late to class?
In order to receive credit for taking the course, NYS requires that you attend the entire 8-hour class.
What do I need to bring with me to class?
Admission Letter, (received via email upon completion of registration) Photo ID (Government Issued Photo ID or School ID. MUST have your DOB on it). If you are attending the 8-Hour Annual you must bring your Security Guard License with you. A Pen or Pencil and Notepad for notes.
Is your school licensed?
Yes, Croker Fire & Life Safety Institute is licensed by NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS)
How do I replace my lost Security Guard License?
To get a new license you have to download and fill out a Duplicate License/Registration Request form and mail it to NYS Licensing Services along with your check for $25. You can also pay via credit card by filling out a Credit Card Authorization form.
How do I update my address or change my name on my Security Guard License?
To update your Security Guard License with change in name, address etc. you will need to send in a completed NYS Change Notice Form along with your check for $25.
Is my Security License / Certifications transferrable?
No, the license and certification you get for New York State is only good for New York. If you plan on relocating out of state and continuing your job in the security field, you will need to get certified in that specific state.
What do I do if my Security Guard License has expired?
Please check your expiration date. The Division of Licensing Services gives a six-month grace period from the expiration date to complete your training courses and send in your renewal form with the required fees. If you have passed the six-month grace period, you will be required to get fingerprinted again and submit a new application.
How do I renew my Security Guard License?
When your license is due to renew, the Division of Licensing Services will send you a renewal letter in the mail about two months prior. The form will state all the courses you need to complete. Once you have completed the required courses you will need to mail your completed form and required fee. Please note your renewal letter will be mailed to the address they have on file, if you have moved since your Security Guard License was issued you will need to contact New York State directly at 518-474-7569 to make address changes.
Can I obtain a Security Guard license even if I have a criminal record?
If you have a criminal record, you will need to get a LETTER OF DISPOSITION or CERTIFICATE OF RELIEF from the courts for each occurrence. These documents will state your case is closed and you are able to work. NYS Department of State, Division of Licensing Services is responsible for the registration of security guards. All questions concerning the registration of security guards must be directed to that office at 518-474-7569.
